God,
don’t want to hear about your problems-
just wants to make sure you pay your taxes and you voted,
you’re up to date with your donations
And your job,
don’t want to hear about the puffy eyes of middle age,
or how you dance around each others wives like a parade,
like watching something get stolen
You’ve been
praying for change that ain’t coming
in this life anyway
and those Protestant boys
they’ve been out back for hours
they’re going to show me
the true pain of god’s powers
I suppose,
it’s something they don’t think
I’ve felt before
Take it for granted
as long as you can
they won’t care for forever
just as long
as money keeps exchanging hands
no ones the wiser
You’ve been
praying for change that ain’t coming
in this life anyway
and those Protestant boys
they’ve been out back for hours
they’re going to show me
the true pain of god’s powers
I suppose,
it’s something they don’t think
I’ve felt before.
